Public transport
Manchester has generally good public transport links, with a few mainline train stations and regular bus services around the city.
Victoria Train Station
Our apartment is about a 20 minute walk from Victoria Station. It is quite scenic, going past Parsonage Gardens and along the River Irwell for parts of the walk.
Piccadilly Train Station
Our apartment is about a 25 minute walk from Piccadilly Station.
Oxford Road Train Station
Our apartment is about a 20 minute walk from Oxford Road Station.
Salford Central Train and Tram Station
Our apartment is about a 5 minute walk from Salford Central station. There are both trains and trams going to this station.
Bus and tram network
Transport for Greater Manchester's website has the most up-to-date information about busses and trams within Manchester. Google Maps is generally very good at finding bus and tram routes around the city, though sometimes strikes and engineering works can get in the way.
Contactless payments
Both bus and trams support contactless payments.
- For busses, just tap in at the start of each bus journey only.
- For trams:
- You must tap in at the tram station at the start of your tram journey
- You must then tap out at the tram station at the end of your tram journey
- If you change trams, only tap out when you leave your final tram
- If you change between bus and tram, you must still tap in for every bus journey, and tap out when you get off the tram
- You must use the same card or device (e.g. phone or watch) for every journey, especially tapping in/out on a tram journey
- The total cost for your journeys by bus and tram will be automatically calculated and capped at the maximum daily amount, or maximum weekly amount (this is only calculated Monday-Sunday, not a rolling 7-day window).
Day, week, or longer tickets
Via the Bee Network app you can check times for bus, trams, and local trains, and buy a wider range of tickets.
